Reminders

Paul Weinman

Notching a number
of slits into my thigh
I insert little cards
each with a catchy phrase.
DON'T LEAP WHILE YOU'RE LIMP
LUST KNOWS NOT LONGITUDE
SLOTS CAN BE MACHINES
and others. Each
meant to remind me
shore me up
when my manners wander
. . . when pants crotch
does sticky-outs.
I've come up with others
HAIRY IS WHAT HARRY'S NOT
A HOLE IS NOT FOR SQUARES
etc.
Sent them off to anthologies,
collectors of "catchy" phrases.
Two have been accepted . . .
a check for two fifty eight
already cashed.
