Oyster Boy Review 17

Poetry Annual · Fall 2003

"He wanted to be the man"

Douglas Chambers

He wanted to be the man
Who stood by the window.
He wanted to arrange the flowers,
Looking beyond the shaken curtain
And the opening casement.
He wanted to be the hand
That fixed the boat in the bay
Tugging out for summer
Over the bright wave
Lost, in the way the painter disposed it.
In the eye of content.
